    DRK mountain rescue badge

    Hello Bill,

It looks like an award because it appearence, but it is a service badge(Abzeichen).Perhaps a way to distinguish themselfs when they were coming on a place of emergency and perhaps proudness to their dangerous and lifesaving work.
Mine (above picture) is the upper part mounted upside-down; the ski's point downwards and the Edelweiss covers some figures!!

Ben, I have the exact same DRK mountain rescue badge and was wondering if you can tell me anything about it. If not mistaken I have read somewhere that these items are completely bogus yet I have seen one for sale on a reputable dealers site about a year ago. Quite a beautiful badge and well made but I have no info on it at all. Any help in this area? I have posted pics at webshots of this

      Bill,

Nice DRK oval variants, are both made by CTD? Looks like their style to me, but difficult to say for sure under flash light.

      Cheers

Ben & Bill, I also have the very same badge. Wonderful and expensive construction, nice enamel work and looks good in every way. Unfortunately I have also heard that these are reproductions and that this particular badge did not exist pre 1945. Can't find any verification in any publication that shows this badge, nor have I ever seen any pics of it in wear. Don't know what the reasoning is behind this being labeled a reproduction. I have to assume that someone on this forum may know some more about this badge.

          Hello again,
Don thanks for your comments regarding my nurses badges and yes both badges are by CTD. I don't have my references handy right now but if not mistaken one badge is considered a wardmaster, or I guess head nurse on a ward badge and the other is for a regular nurse. Don't remember which color indicates which at this point though. Ben & Richard, yes these mountain rescue badges are very well made and executed but as you have stated Richard they are supposedly bogus. Don't remember a reason given for why it was bogus just that it was. I do hope someone on the forum more knowledgeable is able to tell us if they are bogus or not and why. In any case quite nice looking badges. I also have a 1934/35 Nesselwang ski competition badge that is quite well made and corresponds to an event actually held for which there is a tinnie, the enamelled badge also being a bogus item so I've been told. Also have a pic of Nesselwang badge posted on webshots.

The Black is Wardmaster, & red floor nurse.

Don, That clears up the meaning of the Red and black color indication for me but what of the Green and Blue border's? My oval badges are C.T.D. marked and the round one is "PuC" marked.

                    Hi James,

Blue is for supervisor & the green for division chiefs. Green is the rarest. Lovely set you have there by the way.

                    Cheers
                    Don

Thanks Don the information is much appreciated. If I may ask where did you find this data on what the border colors represent.

                          James,

JR Cone's "One People, One Reich - Enameled Organizational Badges of Germany 1918 - 1945"

I prefer Christian Theodor Dicke ovals & Paulmann & Crone's round badges to the other manufacturers that made these types. They seem to have more character .

                          Cheers

                            Hello Don and all,
I was wondering if it is possible to trace the # on back of these nurses badges in order to find out who wore them? Does the red cross keep information like this regarding it's members?

No idea...... Be nice if they did. You may find that the info is in amongst the war documents still to be researched.

Maybe worth looking into if someone has the time & inclination.

                              Cheers

Don, While I agree with you on the two makers you mention here. I also believe
                                A. Stübbe makes a good quality round badge.
