here are some photos of my cased 1936 berlin gold winners medal for mens basketball. marked bh mayer pforzheim 990 on the rim. case is marked h.j.wilm berlin. i will post some views of that as well. i obtained this medal along with some other items directly from the nephew of the gold meda lwinner, duane swanson, last surviving member of the us mens basketball team that won the first ever olympic basketball medal. i hope you enjoy the pics. the grouping includes his gold winners medal wit hcase, his cased laguardia medal ,his berlin participation medal, the aau mens baskentball medal for the olympic trials, as well as a 1984 los angeles participation medal as he was still alive and was an honored guest of the organizing committee.

What is engraved in the torch?

tocrch inscription

on the top of the holder, is ingraved in german, as a gift to the bearer. and organizing commitee for the 11th olympiad .along the shaft of the torch is the route the flame traveled from olympia to berlin. the torch was made by the krupp steel co. regards,,mike

the torch on the relic hunter website is a reproduction, made for the 1972 munich olympics and given to dignataries as a gift. value is about $700.00. if anyone would like to know what makes it a replica i will be glad to explain. or check out ingrid oneil and her olympic collector site, she usually has one or two for sale in her auctions. the fake torch is a bit taller than the originals, look at the base, it finishes at a right angle to the flared out part, there are no right angles to the bases of original 1936 torches. also the finish on the fakes is more of a matt finish, not glossy stainless steel look. have to have one next to the other to really discern the differences if you have never seen an original, you would never know . also the inside of the base is wrong on the relic hunter one. i will post better close up views of a real one this weekend. hope this helps anyone who might be looking at berlin torches, real ones realistically sell for $2800.00 to $3200.00 depending on condition. regards,,mike leone dds max life member
