    GOLD PARTY BADGE Data

    Hi Gents ,
What we are setting up here will be a Data Base for Gold Party Badges where we can document the measurements, weights ,flaws and details of only original examples. The more of us that Post , the more we can learn and the better "Tool" this thread will become.
I'll start off comparing 2 small pattern Deshler's.
I measured them using the crossed ribbons and the space between the leaves at the 12 o'clock position (point to point). The angle looks strange because I did not clamp down tight to avoid scratching the Badge ...so the Badge tilted a bit. There was enough pressure to hold the badge in mid-air though ..you can see the shadow.

On the Deschler's , here's a flaw to look for, a line connecting the 3d and 4th leaves (counting up from the ribbon on the right side ...above the "S" and "C"
                  Here's the "A" badge --

Here's the "B" badge ...same line.
If we consider Die wear from heavy use ,the line should be fainter on a late badge ..or if an early badge , more pronounced.
If any of you could , please post some shots of your Deschler's for comparison. There is a double strike or outline effect around the leaves ..don't confuse those with the line I'm showing

Mike, Very interesting regarding the die flaw. I have it on my 24mm Deschler. Never noticed it before.

Okay, I see the flaw, but I'm still confused on how to tell if it's "A" or "B" or are you just refferring to your badges as A & B?

I'm glad you all joined in on this ..thanks for posting.
Hi Larry , I was just using the "A&B" tags for my 2 Deschler's ..not as a label for 2 different Die's or patterns. It would be very interesting though if through our comparing the GPB details like this , we are able to learn that a specific maker did use more than one die. As I mentioned on another thread , look at all the work Dietrich did on documenting the S&L RK flaws and Frames. The end result ...another fantastic tool we have at our disposal.

                              Large GPB

I located a die flaw on my Large Badge that I'd like to point out ..it's a line that almost looks like a "border" that runs along the bottom of the wreath leaves. Almost as if it was an outline of where to position the center disk.
My Large Badge had the center disk re soldered (at some point) . Even though they did line up the "D.A.P." on the disk with the back plate's crossed ribbon ...they mounted it a little lower than normal . This provides a clearer view of the line .
This border line "Flaw" is more pronounced from the 12 o'clock position to the 4 or 5 o'clock point. As you follow the line , you can see how it is not as pronounced on the left side of the badge.
The line is not exact ...you can see that at some points, it rides outside of the leaves ..other places it runs under the leaves.
