Request for pin/badge identification help

Greetings,
I received this pin/badge between 1962 and 1964 from a high school friend whose father served in Europe/Germany during WWII. I've kept it for these many years and over a dozen moves.
I would be grateful for any and all help in identifying this piece. I have reviewed hundreds of photo on this forum but have not seen this example yet.

My next step will be to go to the Italian and European Axis Allies Forum to see if this badge is genuine. I would also very much appreciate your opinion on its authenticity.
