    Assistance in ID’ing SA Unit

    Hi Folks:

I need some assistance in ID’ing an SA unit. I found a postcard photo of an SA Mann who lived in Neunkirchen am Potzberg (Westmark) and I can see an “8” on the collar tab but I can’t make out the other on the collar tab.

    Can anyone assist? Thanks,

Isn't the 8 indicative of the Standarte number?

There were seven Standarte which had a number 8. None of them was at Westmark.
But there was a naval Standarte 8 located at Koblenz in the Westmark-district. So it might be there is an anchor.

Yes, Ingo, that's a possibility -- 27/8 -- with the '8' indicating the Standarte and the other number indicating the Sturm. But I can't make out the Sturm numbers for certain...??

Our colleague Squidney86 specializes in the SA; I hope we'll hear from him on this question...

This is a tough one and hard to decipher. The 27/8 was more a guess.

It does appear to read 27/8, at least that'd be my guess. The important number to read would be the Standarte which is 8. I know Wim's list and knowledge far exceeds mine but I know of at least 5 Standarte 8's and as Wim said, also the Marine one he listed as well as a Reiter-Standarte.

                  Berlin S42, Berlin-Brandenburg
                  Neustadt/Aisch, Franken
Euskirchen, Niedersachsen (this was a Jager unit though)
                  Frankfurt/Oder, Ostmark
                  Borken, Westfalen

After looking at the photo again, there does appear to possibly be a device before the "/8" but it could just be a glare.

When enlarging the device it looks to be an anchor in some form! It is not a number.

WOW....Thank you for your assistance...I can see that the SA is field in itself. Thank you

Can you take a close-up photo of the collar tab?

IMO it looks more like '27/8' but there are some extra bits of light color there. The forward slash almost looks like it has the hook of a '1'. I don't see an anchor shape in these blown up images.
