I am absolutely certain you are correct, because I believe that not soldiers of whatever period likely did not adhere totally to all uniform regulations. Like I said previously in this post, although I was a JAG CPT, due the cost difference I had an extra green uniform that I bought at Quartermaster sales and had the officer stripes and braids put on and worn......it was a regular enlisted uniform. I almost always wore current non-regulation branch insignia and WW2 period sterling bars, with a WW2 eagle on my visor cap. Further, when a younger EM in the 101st, those fancy 101st patches (wool or felt) which were sold at Brick's off post were not regulation, but several guys had uniforms which had those sewn on them.....some had them hidden away and only wore them off post to impress people, but they wore them. I see no reason that the Germans, military or political etc., might well not did the same.
Thanks,
Ron

Piping
That spool of piping appears original. I've seen it used more on shoulderboards and collar tabs, but occasionally on shirts as well. And to Ron - Again I must stress that no one's accusing you of doing ANYTHING to either item. Any suspicions I cast on the items are assumed to apply to previous owners.
BTW, Are you under the impression that this kepi & shirt originally belonged to the same man, and if so, what is that theory based on? And they're probably ok, but please post a closeup of the inside of the kepi's rivets - the rivet experts will know if they're period or not, and that issue will be put to bed. I wasn't questioning the way the wool is attached, just the wool material itself.

Earlier I said that I had absolutely no idea that the shirt and cap were originally owned and worn by the same SA man, I don't even know if they are size compatible. The cap is a small size, but I don't know the size markings of the shirt to see if the head size might generally fit with the size of the shirt. All I can say is I got them at the same time from the same man, he was not old enough to have been in the SA himself and was just a fleamarket junk dealer, which he got by cleaning out attics, basements and etc..
As soon as I can get things straightened up some from the work going on again (hit and miss) in my room, another room too, and outside to be able to dig it out and get a place to photograph it, I will take the pictures so you can put your issue to rest............I don't need them, since I have no issue with it and don't want to sell it.
Thanks,
Ron

I also got a shot of the size, so you could compare it to the shirt size.....if you can tell from the marks what size it is unlike me. 58 for a hat seems small, since I wear a 7 1/2 in U.S. sizes......and I took another shot of the eagle.

Cap
Great pics. I'm no rivet expert, but those sure don't look modern to me. The cap wool looks better in the closeup, also. Thanks for posting. I pick stuff apart on the SS forum as well, as I mentioned. There was a totenkopfring that everyone was slobbering over, and I was considered a heretic for opposing it. Turns out that it's now considered a dud. Some members are quick to say something's ok, and some members are quick to say something's not ok, and everyone else in between. Now, if you ever DO sell the cap, you can point to the consensus on arguably the finest forum of it's kind.
