              Seriously it has nice detail to eagles head etc, the swaz looks a bit miss shaped , looks like it has verdigris and a quality metal type, however i have not seen anything similar this does not meen that i think it is fake!

                  I must agree with J. Wraith: based solely from what I see here and it's described dimensions, it certainly looks like the kind of tray one would expect to find either in a secretary's outer office or in the entrance hallway of a notable person's home, for the purpose of receiving calling cards and small notes from visitors. I've not seen its like before, but I find it quite interesting.

                            I remember the first time I saw one of these and several old time collectors were pondering its intended use--one of the suggestions was that it was for holding a small pyre. Of course, the finish would quickly be ruined if it was used for holding embers. If anything, it was likely a decorative accent piece, and not meant specifically for holding anything.
