And Erich ... to answer your question, no. The auction started today, and I won't have time to get everything done in time to get it in. Plus, I'll enjoy playing with this for the next couple of months!

This is an exceedingly difficult item to value as these are mostly pretty unique but also appeal to a very narrow set of collectors. While rare, it may never bring the price it should due to its rarity since fewer collect this type of item. The only true gauge of value would be to place this item in a well advertised auction. There are no price guides for items like this.

I do agree that the "value" of this is really hard to nail down outside of an auction, but $2000 to $3000 is not an accurate figure. I'd pay multiples of that to the owner right now, to own this chain. And that's not just me. I've already received an offer far in excess of the value suggested above, and would suggest that were you to hold this in your hand, you'd quickly agree.Last edited by Craig Gottlieb; 01-27-2013, 10:15 AM.

It'll be interesting to see if this one sets "records" or not. I personally think this one has a chance to do just that, but in the end, we'll know exactly. The Mayor was, indeed, an SS Gruppenführer, but I don't know how much that will play into the value. This is more about the city of Leipzig, and more about the quality craftsmanship, and less, IMO, about the SS connection. I know I'd pay $10K to the owners, if they'd let me just keep it. They say there was a box for it, and some other "stuff" but they're unable to locate said material, currently.
