Just because the one you posted is more detailed than the more common fakes, doesn't make it anymore real. There are very well made fakes that cause confusion all the time.

Here is the bird that Thomas Wittmann sold recently. Again, this is not a desk eagle that I would want in my collection but someone else was happy with it and paid a lot of money for it. (Photo's Thomas Wittmann)

John T sold a couple of M3/100 Nuremberg eagles last month that I would consider nice originals. The first was a lovely gold washed example minus the marble base and the second one was a bronze plated one with some oxidisation at the back. I think what is great about this bronze one is that its original base is complete with its sport house Nurnberg sticker. (Photo's John T)

The Wittmann bird was sucker priced and if not mistaken had a multi piece swaz that was mobile. The base is not correct on that example. The bird in post#43 has what appears to be a post war base as well but the cast is one piece on the swaz and the patina is fairly convincing at least from the photos. The eagle in #44 is on an improper base, has a static swaz that may be multi piece and someone blurred the rear, but its not looking good. And this lead looking piece is not all that convincing either. 43 AND 27 would need to be pulled apart and you would see differences I think and their the one piece casts. Good pieces to stay away from until comparisons could be made. Stick with what is known.

There's a solid piece eagle in a mueseum with provenance from the vet that brought it back... Obviously this group is stuck only on the RZM eagles. That's fine but I would suggest looking deeper. There's a few non RZM variants known. I will say this is authentic and you can say it's not. I guess it will come down to personal preference. Happy hunting!

Nothing to do with the RZM and most know they do not have to be RZM marked. You have base metal variations, construction variations, post war marble, and non standard marble. All on birds that have long been suspect anyway. If its solid your screwed. So, cant very well look deeper without the examples in hand and for that reason its best to stay with what is known.

I like the unknown... "If it's solid , you're screwed". So the vet that donated his solid example is a counterfeit? I'll will agree to disagree.

Its your wallet so do as you like, pretty clear from the beginning that no one was going to tell you anything anyway. No disappointments here on that. Happy hunting.

                    Hi mloppkit,

The one with the Sports House eagle on John's site is one of the most beautiful pieces. Everything is perfect in it, sans the oxidation.

I agree Mil, it is unfortunate about the oxidization at the rear. It looks as though it could have been left lying on its back on something wet for years.

It looks great from the front though and would still make a nice desk or shelf piece where it is viewed from the front. I notice it is RZM 3/100 marked and these sometimes are and sometimes are not. (Photo's John T)

                        Nuremberg Desk Eagle

I picked this one up at the Show of shows last weekend from a Claude Langlois out of Quebec. It's kinda rough (lots of scratches and paint splatter on it) but the only one I could find at the show (I spent 10 hours looking through 2k tables). Talked seller down to what I considered a good price right at the end of the day. Full money back guarantee for authenticity so I just wanted to find out what you guys thought--I'm not good with these. Also wondering if anyone can translate it? Thanks. I always appreciate yall's comments.

Jtrew, your eagle apears to be an HB version ,zinc/white metal cast with a gold wash ...the wash on these is easily damaged ...can you say what kind of money you had to pay? ...jusy wondering ...EC

HB version? Can you elaborate? Any idea what the plaque says? He was asking $1850. Paid him $1500.

This style of desk eagles were made presumably by the maker HB. There should be a HB marking on the reverse at the lower part of the base just below the wing. Not all were marked. This "HB" version also had some with rear feathers and others on a smooth back version. The other HB version had an enlarged base for mounting onto a frame.

JTREW, I believe the gold washed HB would be considered more rare than a silver one ...EC
