    large eagle opinions

I picked this up from a Vet's family along with some great items. I have seen railroad eagles, etc... but not one like this. Is it authentic? A political eagle? There doesnt seem to be anything mounted to the back to put it in a wall, which has me a little concerned. it measures about 18 1/2 inches by 6 1/4. Thanks for the help.

No it is not, but original copies of these do exist with a RENO marking.

Figured it was bad when I could find no maker mark. Plus the craftsmanship is not made with pride

Not all eagles had a foundry or maker mark.
And vice versa, having a mark does not make a piece good.

The design of this eagle is based upon the giant Governmental Eagle so often seen in pix of the Reichstag in session at the Kroll Opera House. Period pieces in this design are most impressive and obviously well-made. This one appears to be a crude casting, perhaps cast from an original, though the sharp details all seem to be missing or washed out.

I have had two originals of these and they don't have the casting flaws like this one. I believe it is a knock off.
