Huge RZM metal eagle - boxcar? 37-1/2" wide

    Hello all,

Any ideas on what this one was for, a political train eagle possibly? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

            William,

Probably mounted for a government office and not a train or loco eagle. I dont like it. looks crudely cast and could be a repro.
Most likely sand casted. The RZM marks also do not conform to textbook stamping.

Best to hear what the rest think.

            Mil

I can't tell you if it's a good or bad one but I find it pretty impressive nonetheless !

              Regards, Henk

I have never seen one of these birds RZM marked and I don't like the style of the RZM stamp for what it's worth.

                  Hello all,

I don't think I will be pursuing this one and thank you for your opinions prior to my purchase!

Is it just me, or do i see An RS overstamped with X RENO AND the R of reno covering or trying to cover the S...in R S ....could this have been a 60's souval repro of the giant one behind hitler in one of his speeches (wasn't that one gold in color)? Just food for thought .

                      Incorrect Maker Marking for Adler

                      Hello Mr Kramer,

                      This Adler is very Fake,

1/ It has an incorrect RENO RZM stamp. - RENO of course being the Austrian manufacturer RZM M3/82 Gruber & Co, Wien (Vienna). See the two examples of correct RENO Markings and Adler quality (photos courtesy Thomas T Wittmann)
2/ Reno only made Political and Diplomatic wall Adlers in Aluminium of much greater quality than this.
3/ This model Adler is often seen and was always made in either cast zink or of sheet copper/tin alloy by a manufacturer other than RENO-
the eagles head is indicative of this. (photo courtesy Herman Historica),

Conclusion- This is a casting of the Non-RENO Diplomatic Adler, home stamped with a RENO RZM mark- a poor attempt at reproducing a classic Diplo Adler.
A search of wall eagles on this forum will show at least 3 different examples of original RENO wall Adlers as well as a couple of fakes.

                      Best Regards,
                      Michael
