A very nice find to be sure. There was a lot of activity at Nueschwanstein towards the end of the war with the hiding of art treasures. It's amazing how the gilding has held up for all those years in the ground.

Jim, agree its a really exciting find. I probably would not have cleaned them though to be honest.Always a fine line between conservation and the 'story' that they showed in dug condition.
