Hello,several years ago i went thru the collection of phonograph record catalogs.......a 1939 decca record catalog from germany, in german, featured BING CROSBY promanantly , and also listed swingin selections from american musicians...........it suggests that swining may not have been encouraged by the party but it must have been tolerated?............HOLLYWOOD HAS TO EXAGGERATE TO MAKE A MOVIE INTERESTING ENOUGH TO GENERATE A HIT.........eg..............the trapp family just bought train tickets to leave austria............no big deal

There is a a four CD set currently available, entitled "Swing Tanzen Verboten" which compiles over 80 tracks banned by the Third Reich as "unerwunschte musik"!
Most of the tracks featured are copies of jazz standards, given different titles to avoid the censor; but one CD comprises 23 tracks by "Charlie and His Orchestra"
It is available from "Proper Records" as PROPERBOX 56 and is an interesting audio experience - what a fuss about nothing
Most of the tracks were recorded during German occupation in Europe, and are a good soundtrack to take you back to the period whilst perusing your collection.
I enjoy listening to period music while looking through my items, as it helps the "take me back" to those times.
I have over 60 CD's of 1930-40's music and radio broadcasts which help to re-create a war-time experience.
I must be very sad!
