Otto Ertl was a baker living in dowtown Munich and, as a member of Bund Oberland participated in the failed 8/9 November 1923 Putsch.
Ertl went on to join the SS (1.SS-Standarte "Julius Schreck") and was one of the organizations earliest members, with SS number 4,564. He was promoted to SS-Untersturmführer in 1935 and SS-Obersturmführer in 1938, served with the LSSAH in the 1939 Polish and 1940 French campaigns and by 1945 was serving as a officer at Flossenbürg.
Here's Ertl's Blutorden, today, and in wear 73 years ago at the 1937 Reichspartitag, where he was the standard bearer for the 1.SS-Standarte "Julius Schreck."
The second photo is also of Ertl - again with the very same blood order in wear.
