Gold Party Badge with no name and number

Just got this one from the kid of the vet along with an M16 Luftschutz 60 KVKs in the packets and an army cloth german cross in gold. It's the big one with the hole on the back. Nice classic pin. Looks like it was made yesterday. Is there any chance it is real? I can post pictures tomorrow. I'm at the big Puyallup, Washington Arms Collectors, Gun Show and a couple of the local collectors had a look at it and thought it looked good to them. High quality and had a little toning I missed. Can't wait to put up the pictures. Doug

The pictures are being needed. I have seen genuine small ones with no markings whatsoever, but never a large one.

      PICs

Almost 10AM and still dark out. Seattle. I'm so stupid I can't figure out how to kill the dumb flash on my camera. Doug

Here we go. This is so not me. I just had a sick thought. Some goofball could just engrave some famous guys number on this poge to "upgrade" it. I just hate that. Doug

I have edited my earlier statement. I'd prefer some better pics of the obverse straight on. I think I am making out some characteristic flaws, but the enamel troubles me. I'd need to be 100% convinced from the obverse to weigh out the pin without a MM.

            Cool

Some of the local collectors have had a look at it and liked it too. I have never had a real one in 50 years of collecting this stuff. Late war MMs went by the way side. Doug

That is an interesting piece, never seen one without markings!

Better pictures would be in order though!

              Best Regards,

              Adren

I have not seen a 30mm badge without a MM and the late war theory doesn't hold water with me. Certain things look correct but better photos are needed to be sure one way or another.

I agree. There are a few things I don't like. The pinplate has some subtle differences from the standard Deschler. The stippling under the red enamel isn't right and there is an unusual break in the inner silver ring on the front around 9 o'clock. The leaves have a very pronounced ridge you don't see except on military pin backs. There's also an odd roughness to the surface of the enamel (look at the flash on the black part) which may indicate modern fill and not true highly polished period glass enamel.

Nicely done, but I am not convinced. My first impression is the Latvians are getting better...

My first impression was "not real".

Never had one. Don't know anything about them. I just got this in a bunch of original stuff from the kid. Who knows where or when or from whom this was added to it. Anything rare and/or highly sought after I just don't buy. Basicly, I have nothing in this and didn't want to believe that it is real. I agree about the base stippling on the red not being right.

Don't all the repos have numbers and maker marks? I find it hard to believe that this is kid added to this stash as she just hated this stuff and wanted to get rid of it. Maybe the vet did. But he died some years ago. I just don't think that the quality of the repos were that high then. Hell, I don't know from nothing. Doug

As always, right to the point. This calls for a side-by-side comparison, either with an original or a Latvian fake.

                        Gpb

100% original GPB, I have no doubts. The problem is too many people hate little variations to the norm so to speak.Having owned and handled dozens no concerns.
                        Cheers Kyle

The number / maker marks are usually the easiest things to ID a fake. Usually these would have a rotograved or engraved number.

This is awfully good - would fool most people. Very dangerous copy in my opinion.

I am leaning towards liking it, but let's stop right now with the "Late war MMs went by the way side." talk.

there may be rare, unexplained circumstances where a badge may have no makers mark or number, but this is a tremendous exception, and is absolutely not a rule.

I would be happy to send this to the primary researcher of these.

If you guys can come up with someone I can send this to, who has experience in these, I would be happy to send it off to him for a read. Thanks for all the offers to buy. Doug
