This kind of cap and other clothes were sold to sportsmen long before the HJ staff decided to introduce them as uniform parts. Winter sports were very popular in Germany in the 20th (and later) and fashion was evident also.

On the other side, no uniform or insignia of the NSDAP formations was allowed to be sold outside of the RZM channel (because they had to check the quality, to impose the lowest price... and to take there part : see the RZM labels and other markings). If some manufacturer (or trader) had dared to forget that, it was big amend for him.

True, it was regulated and supposed to be adhered to strictly...but how can we explain the printed armbands, which were not the RZM norm? and as such "verboten" for wear per the regulations. Period images and US vet "bring-backs" confirm that these existed in the third reich...

I do agree that my hat example is an extreme violation of non regulation wear...and could very well be a (period) conversion of an older (pre HJ period) ski-cap, later modified for HJ use as a winter mutze... (its definetely not a post war hat with "Ski Heil" lettering...The "Heil" part would not be politically correct in post war Germany...
Not the norm of course... I agree! That's why I posted it as a violation example, just like the printed armbands...

Don't necessarily want to switch topics from HJ armbands to HJ winter caps but this is a good thread on these, showing the official winter types with RZM tags and buckle markings !

The printed armbands are a mistery for me !

They existed in the beginnings and you show a well known picture with a boy still wearing an SA buckle.
At one moment, the RZM forbid this "variant" and it was no more to see on pictures.
At the end of the war, a few insignias were manufactured printed and the Volkssturm armband also... but until an RZM regulation comes out and tells me it was allowed to make and sell printed Armbands, I don't really believe in that.

Interesting thread. It does talk about non sanctioned clothing items like home made HJ armbands even... People were coming out of the depression in the
late 30's so they made do with what they had, what they could afford and what was available (RZM sanctioned or not).
But as a collector, if there is no prevenance, I agree to steer away from non text book items, non RZM tagged items. Always a safe bet when collecting HJ material! My "Ski Heil" (non RZM) cap example...who knows?
The armband examples; avoid these is my recommendation!

            Hello,

Don't forget that all this uniforms and insignias sold in the "Braune Häuser" (brown shops) were very cheap.

It was torerate that mom makes a shirt or a short because at this time the mothers (all over the world) made a lot of clothes at home... but nobody made (and makes) one printed armband at his home !
To make such an item, you need the silkscreen printing system and if you have this material, of course, you must make many and if you make many it's to make money and if you make money you became "something like" a professional, ect...

I don't really want to have "the last word". I just want to give facts about uniforms.

            Best regards

At last my uv light torch has arrived - but it under the light and the white areas on the armband glowed.
A post war repro I think
