The Feldherrnhalle & Munich in Pictures

10 years ago, I spent some time in Munich and was appalled at the lack of maintainance of the Feldherrnhalle. I was told, by my innkeeper, that it will be allowed to deteriorate until it must be dismantled, for safety reasons. There are many, in Germany, who want to see it removed as it was a place of honor during the Third Reich and is a bit of an embarrassment to the German Government.

What struck me was the very short walk to the Bavarian Giovernment offices, just around the corner and down the block. We normally think of this great and LONG march, on 9 November, 1923, when the entire procession probably only took 10 minutes before the gunshots rang out.

THANK YOU for these great photos, I will be working on a diorama in 1/35 scale featuring this building with the "side monument" with honor guard and all , the future owner is just undecided if he want a "duo diorama".....in one side of the diorama, the building in prewar condition and in the other side the building after the capitulation.

This Thread and the other about the same subject have been a gold mine of information and visual reference. Again THANK'S A MILLION!!

If the government ends up tearing down the FHH in the future it will be a real historical tragedy.

Surely that would not happen ??? Its not a Nazi shrine or anything it was in place long before the NSDAP. Such a shame if they did pull it down,although I cant see it, its top tourist attraction.
BUT hell if they did I would be arranging transportation of one of those lions to my garden Erich,Rob you boys will have to fight over the other one !!

If the German government think that by removing/vanishing places that the nazis used during their time in power is going to make things "less taboo/more political correct" they surely don't understand the way the humans think and do things.....it will only make the place MORE atractive NOT for the true history enthusiast but to those with less historical interest and more political one.

Look at the Berghof area.....do you realy think that most of the turists that visit the area, do it for the stuning beautiful vista and clean air it offers, or to see the famous hitler country reatreat?.....of which nothing remains apart from the tea house/eagles nest. Until recently you could buy reproductions postcards,books and photos of the area during the T.R....OPENLY!!!!

Making things taboo only make it more interesting and attractive....usually to the wrong crowd.

at least the Zeppelinfeld is getting renovated for some 6 or 9 Millions (Euro). When time comes Munich will care for such a center piece. Just was there a again view days ago, my favorite city on mother earth.

My thoughts on the feldherrenhalle's fate...

If they ever remove it and auction off the statues, they will bring a kings ransom. (also the weasel could go there after they tear it down, and pick up pieces of the cement to sell on the forum like the ones from wewelsburg ) Just kidding....hahaha. But seriously someone may make aluminum ash trays with a letter of authenticity on the back, and a piece of the feldherrenhalle set into the aluminum facsimile. (alright military, dont be getting any ideas.) hahaha ....just kidding again.Seriously now....

I can see why it is a danger, they have it wired with cables , barely holding it together right now.

I have an idea....Maybe a better choice would be to take it apart, and number the pieces, then ship it to the u.S.A. and ...rebuild it in Lake havasu, right next to the london bridge.

Man that would bring em in for the big party there every year.

Remake the missing parts, and charge admission , and play SA marching songs , maybe even have a gun show ....I can see it all now "The London Bridge-- Feldherrenhalle Fueher- Fest SUPER Gun Collectorama"
(LBFFFSGC) We need another biggerer gun show dont we??....It would be the Bestetst ever, and allow everyone(for a small fee) to have their photo taken in front of the halle...alone or with just their main squeeze, and no bicycles allowed....Whatdya think.....?

The cables are there because of the deterioration of the columns, from roof weight, and misalignment from years of neglect. If those cables were removed, the columns may bow and the roof will fall in. The cables are a temporary fix, at best, and will not hold forever. Just using that technique would be fine if it was temporary while work was being done, but I think that the work will never be done and one day it will be condemned as a "safety hazard" and it will be dismantled. I highly doubt that any part will be released to the public (sorry, Harry), but the statues and lions may be used, or placed, by some museum.

I believe it would be a tragedy, but look what happened to the London Bridge!!!!!!
