Here's an interesting screw back configuration, and the first I've seen on a 1st type badge being offered by Weitze. The pins were so fragile on the 1st types that a lot of the pins and catches were prone to breakage. By the way, thanks for the heads up on this badge Jon!

It really shows the esteem that this award held to the recipients considering the added expense of customizing the pin attachments on these earlier awards.

Having owned a 1st type in the past what struck me was the pin was wholly inadequate for the badge itself.It could have ripped off easily particularly on a tough uniform.This screwback is a typical 1st type and indicates heavy usage,
thus ensuring the badge was not lost which happened to many a Blood Order recipient !

Kyle, I'm sure that due to loss of the original awards was one of the reasons that the 2nd type badge came to be. Also, extras for additional uniforms and of course for Hitler to make as Honor awards.
The Hermann Fobke uniform, from what I read was found with an unnumbered BO attached to it, so my guess is that some Officials were also able to get additional Blood Orders as well.

Absolutely right Erich, these badges were lost,stolen and probably sold by some.Remember human beings never change.
