Erich: AMEN, my friend -- and if you add to those CBs a BO or two and some GPBs, that's a mighty strong collection right from the get-go!!

Tony: There are very few collectors that I'm aware of who have family members who could be trusted to take the care necessary to properly dispose of a TR/NSDAP collection...or of any other kind of a collection, for that matter! Family members tend to want to get the cash out of any legacy, and the devil with the rest! I can't blame family members, though; after all, I collected all of this stuff over the whole course of my lifetime -- my family members didn't, and I can't expect them to have the same respect for my collection that I do. I COLLECTED IT, they didn't!

A Germany philatelic collector friend of mine -- my senior by quite a few years, both in age and in years collecting -- suggests that finding a trusted personal friend who is in the same hobby and would take charge of one's collection and make certain that it is disposed of properly and that the right survivor(s) receive the financial outcome of the disposal -- either by auction or by dealer sale -- is the optimum way to go. Makes good sense to me!

Manufactured from Lauer Nürnberg. See detailed manufacturer name on bottom LH and RH corner. Quality is fantastic nice done, see the Iron Corss beading and flange quality. Of course as well the proud eagle and Coburg badge details. Wood plate size 17.5cm x 11.8cm.

Knows anyone how the case for the Coburg badge looks like by the way?

Robert,
I have never seen an official case for the badge. My guess is that when the 1st awards were given out in 1932 at the 10th anniversary,they were handed to the recipients and then directly pined to their brownshirts.

A great photo, Erich -- Johann Bäumer was one of those rare individuals who wore all three of the highest Party awards because he actually participated in those events:

The Battle of Coburg
The Order of 8/9 November 1923 -- #1409
The Golden Party Badge -- #11554

Much more famous -- or infamous -- people would have loved to wear all three, but they simply weren't present for all three events. Such people included Hermann Göring, Rudolf Hess, Ernst Röhm, Wilhelm Brückner, Viktor Lutze, the Bormann brothers, and even Heinrich Himmler himself!

Very well done except that the Coburg badge is silver, but you can't have everything. Funnily enough this just reminds me of how much I prefer the M35 helmet over the previous ones. How far was he promoted?

I remember a couple of years ago Craig Gottlieb had Grimminger's GPB at the show in Kassel and asked me to look after it for him. I had it for about 12 hours and didn't want to give it back!
