Yes, and the swastika is also a symbol used by Native American tribes, as well, but my question has to do with the specifics of how this symbol came into National Socialist use. I am aware that the Thule Society used the swastika from the early years of the 20th century, but here we see another group -- the deutschvölkichen Schutz -und Trutzbundes -- which was apparently using the same symbol for it's own purposes at the same time the Thule Society was active. Since Hitler was not a member of either of those two groups, I am interested in how and why he came to discover or develop this symbol for the purposes of the NSDAP. Any light that can be shone upon this question is appreciated.

    With thanks,

    Br. James

      Hi Gary,

I bought mine through a member many years ago and I can't remember when it was exactly. It is still in my collection and a very nice plate to commemorate the event.

Nice badge. Is my observation correct that second pattern are scarcer than first ?

Very nice second pattern. I think both first and second patterns are equally scarce. I have not seen one on the market for a while now and the Coburg Badge seems more difficult to find than a typical Blood Order now.

There are several variations of both first and second patterns which I note at least 4-5 variations exist in total in terms of the manufacturing detail although certain features are still consistent across all types.

I think it’s always been that CBs are fewer than BOs being offered for sale.

                          A very true observation, Erich.

I also agree, Erich. To my knowledge there were about 450 CBs awarded and there were about 1,500 of each of the two series of BOs awarded, or 3,000 original awards in total. Even though both CB and BO holders had duplicates made over time, the ratio of CB to BO is heavily on the side of finding a BO over against a CB, regardless of the series issue.

Just for collector-speak, what do you guys think about the number of CB vs BO in collectors’ hands today? My take? 20 CBs; 70 BOs? This includes both first and second patterns. Perhaps the number of BOs that Jon could even be more than all the CBs in collector hands today? Just sayin’.

                                My estimation:
                                CB: 35 to 40
                                BO( 1st and 2nd pattern):200
