the nskk is period printed and nice, the sa one is wrong.the roundel has the white ribbed pattern running horizontal which is USUALLY a bad sign although ive seen afew but no questions on their legitimicy, also the black arms on the swastika very strange most always ribbed on wool armbands,if this were a cotton piece i might go for it because they always seem to be of varying structure and surprises.but not on a wool one.also 60 percent of stamped armbands ive seen are phoney, and the white roundel is VERY white.

My early impression was that it stood a chance but having checked my reference books i cannot find a like armband, as Webelsburg states the ribbing is horizontal, something i didnt see at first glance also, again i cannot find reference pictures of horizontal ribbing to an armband, im sure Jeff Clark would have the answer if he sees this piece, Sean

We did not "all" agree that this NSKK armband is authentic. I don't believe it for one minute. I've had two examples of this type of NSKK armband and in both cases they were exactly like yours. There was a period in the 1970's when someone was producing armbands with this same exact construction using this printing technique and the white-spotted inside, coupled with the 100% "assurance" of originality by adding a paper RZM tag. Other printed examples of phony armbands made like this include the Luftschutz NSDAP (white on green), Sicherheits-Hilfsdienst (white on green), and the Luftschutz "L" (black on green). What does not add up is the construction method, the cloth, no period photo showing an armband like this ever being worn, and my number 1 bad give-away: a paper RZM tag that strattles the back seam where the armband is sewn together. Makes absolutely no sense since most armbands are too big/long to fit on coats/jackets/shirts and so when armbands are adjusted/altered, they are all adjusted at this exact seam where the RZM tag is glued, thus destroying the tag. On all known original armbands, the RZM tags are glued (or sewn if cloth) to the back of an armband (usually toward the center, but not always) while the armband is a strip of cloth prior to the two ends being sewn together. These have just never felt right to me - sorry. The only true authentic NSKK armband close to this that I have ever seen in period photos and have actually held, is one with the same color scheme, but with a much bigger roundel, an eagle whose wings come out of the roundel onto the red band itself, and not sewn together on the reverse rather with two straps and a buckle system in order to be fastened (without sewing) onto the leather motorist jackets worn during the racing events at the time. Note this version I just explained has also been frequently reproduced, but never with the metal buckle fastening system like on the originals. Chris
