          hi tony,
in answer to your question...if i remember correctly(i read it awhile back)
schirach was head of the hitler youth(nice hight post)but he was made a gauleiter(which was a lower post!)but he was allowed to keep wearing his HJ uniform as he didnt want to loose the ranking......or something along them lines.im sure another member can confirm this.

          regards

            Jeff,
Once again to add to others...these photos are astounding! Inge and Robert with the Fuehrer at the Berghof.....

Also, von Shirach did wear an interesting mix of Reichsleiter and HitlerJugendFuehrer Insignia....The Black velvet band(hj/ss) on the PL visor vs the normal Burgandy color...also his greatcoat or Mantel was that of an HJ leader with Reichsleiter insignia....and yes, its almost comforting to see him wear the Reichsleiter Brassard upside-down yet again...

fabulous photos...and a great hello to Mark Costa in Cleveland.

The Man To The Right Of Ley Wearing The Tabs Of An Oberdeinstleiter Has Them And His Form 4 Kampfbinde Attached To An Ordensburg Uniform. Note The School Title And The Shoulder Strap. I Have A N P E A Instructor's Tunic With Kreis Level Bereichsleiter Collar Tabs Attached. Evidently, Political Leaders Who Also Were Instructors In The Political Schools Could Wear A Combination Of Insignia.

Here is the only pic I am aware of showing a PL wearing a dagger--Reichsleiter v. Schirach wearing his HJ Leaders Dagger:

Breaking the rule, as this is a Form 3 Uniform, but still a nice color pic--Gauleiter Wagner:
