Just curious, but do you know if it's attributable? If yes, then that will definitely increase the 'value' as most 2nd patterns are un-attributable (for now, anyway ) but $5000 for a loose and $10000 for a cased 2nd pattern seem very high.

Originally posted by Rob Johnson View PostUncased, without a ribbon, even in the 2000 number range, I'd say $2000 max. The fact that it is missing the ribbon will really put a lot of people off, as ribbons are next to impossible to find. Also, while they are significant I'd say the 1st patterns are much more desirable...

Here's a cased 2nd pattern currently going for £4250............that's about $8500 USD.

Yes, it is a very nice example of a second pattern and one I wouldn’t mind owning. Still, I find it hard to comprehend that someone would be willing to pay the prices that Erich estimated. I've been offered a few second patterns over the last 12 or so months - cased and uncased - between $3200 and $6000, all of which I passed on, mainly because they were un-attributed and, well... second patterns. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate 2nd patterns and I’m not knocking them in any way, but to me they lack the significance and importance associated with the first patterns; what the order was originally created to honor and represent - what makes first patterns so unique, intriguing, desirable and 'valuable.'
Second patterns also turn up more frequently; I think I see 6 or 8 cased second patterns for every one cased first pattern. IMHO $8.5K seems like a lot for a second pattern... I'd much rather put that money towards a cased first pattern. They're out there
Thanks for the link, Robin. Dion – Goold luck with that 2nd pattern -I hope you are able to get it!

Ill post pics it when its in, thanks for the link Robin!
Hopefully when I get the full number I can see if it is attributable.
It is interesting such a low number of these were made and that they do not go for more.
I see this often with Imperial medals, I seen one where only 400 were ever made, solid godl piece cased, A mecklenburg awards. The market value is 1500e, only 400 made , solid gold and priced like that, unbelievble.Iam Uncle Sam
