Seems like Bob C. got caught up in the excitement of the acquiring the grouping, and didn't do the basic DD, and was ensnarled in a 'Salting the Mine' ala Fritz Witt Jr. style, for a serious chunk of cash.
To have this happen to anyone is terrible. To have the fraud exposed to the victim who is a Veteran 50 year collector, in the midst of his own thread, is a lesson here to all to learn about this hobby.
Just when you think you seen it all,.... they get you.
However, I do very much like the SS dagger that Mongobongo scored.
There is not one collector or dealer who has been in this hobby that I know, who has not been taken for some serious money on humped up militaria over the years.

Humped up, forged and faked is bad enough but it sends a chill down my spine every time I view a "grouping" that supposedly is from one individual. There are always pieces in the grouping that are generic and could have come from anywhere. Who knows if the EK2 in a grouping you purchase was really the one awarded to the person whose name is on the document? With time, groupings, unless they have some pretty ironclad provenance, will become more and more suspect.

It appears as though the grouping is now available piece by piece http://www.garyhendershott.net/onlin...s/emil-maurice

Jon, are you thinking of picking up the first first pattern BO?

Go back to the early discussion. I analyzed the badge and the enamel roundel is clearly modern and replaced. You can see the differences in a side to side with real 24mm Deschler badges. Notice particularly the thickness of the white ring, the narrow swastika and too-regular lettering. The wreath/backplate appears to be original.
