I would guess early 30s. Maybe between 1930 - 1933, as they don’t wear the SA dagger yet.

I was just checking some SA reference books. The small eagle on the kepi was introduced in June 1931. The colored top at the kepi was introduced in July 1933. They have the small eagle on the kepi, but no colored top. So the photo can be dated between June 1931 and June 1933.

I just saw that as well. Have never seen this before. The tabs also do not appear to have any Sturm/Standrtes. Just the blitz symbol. I have seen tabs like this but have always assumed they were fake. Hmmmm.

Also, the man kneeling with the swallow on the shoulder appears to maybe have the Lehr device on his tab?

Interesting photo! It's possible there is a Sturm/Standarte number on the tabs that doesn't show in the photo due to the film/shadow/flash. Also notice there are no shoulder straps being worn. I suspect the kneeling musician is also wearing the Blitz but it's foreshortened due to the angle of the tab.

All stuff which, in my opinion, never was officially authorized.
Must be between later 1932 and before July 1933.
Nachrichten-units were not mentioned in Heft 2 from Dienst-
vorschrift für die SA, from 1932.

well the sa is notorious for non-reg insignia. good photo-record of oddball insignia.

The flags are very unusual also--I can't figure out what they are.

You mean wearing a Blitz on his collar tab? Isn’t it a lyre?
Or do you mean he is wearing a Blitz on his left arm (like the guy on the right)?
