Here’s a question, if the Sa had about 3 million members at one point. What happen to all those collar tabs ? I’m been trying for over 10 years to expand my collection but difficult to obtain.

When I visited a couple of aunts of a German friend in Baden in the 1980's we got into some discussion of olden times when their dad was a member of the local SA Reiter unit. They had plenty of flags and banners for holidays but when the war ended everything was destroyed because of the unpleasant liability. They kept a couple of photos and that was all. Don't know if being in the French occupation zone had anything to do with it but there was no nostalgia for holding on to NSDAP memorabilia.

That’s what I’ve heard from most German families, too. Paper and cloth items have been burned, metal and leather items have been buried or hidden away.

Another reason is that metal and leather survived the decades better and easier than cloth and paper. Just look at all the moth bites on uniforms, headgear, tabs, etc.

That might explain why it’s rather easy to find SA daggers, SA belt buckles, SA badges, SA tinnier, etc. whereas it is hard to find SA kepis, SA collar tabs, SA cloth insignia, SA brownshirts, etc.

              Pauke:
I had the same experiences with family and friends, living in Germany.
Especially in the "Kolenpot"-area (Essen-Duisburg and such). I could not get anything, not even photographs.
And that was in the earliest seventies.
In the south of Germany it was the same, sometimes a book.

That sounds about right, my friends father lived in an occupied territory by the Germans . He was forced to join the Sa and they used him as a translator. After the war was over nothing was left of him ever being in the Sa.

WAF SA collar tab collectors ?

I’m still frustrated about Sa Tabs ! Not many collect them. I can go on estand any given day and see lots of ss luft Heer insignia and once in 6 months find one collar tab. I know a few local collectors who have a ton of tabs but will not sell or trade any.

SS that's what they all want, as well as Luftwaffe and Heer. Political is not that well desired by much.
Many collectors do have some tabs, but do not specialize.
If local collectors do have them, offer more, maybe then they are willing to get rid of their stuff!

But I like the tabs much more when they’re still attached to the shirt

These 2 brown shirts are from the area of the city „Ulm“ in Southern Germany, where my grandparents come from

Here are some pictures of my collection.
I am only collecting SA cloth insignias from
austrian groups Alpenland, Donau and Südmark.

I have picked up a few tabs over the years. I am surprised there are so few of these available. There is probably a 20 to 1 ratio of SS to SA tabs. Looking at dealer sites I see almost as many officers tabs for sale as EM tabs. DSC04415.jpgDSC04416.jpgDSC01043.jpgDSC01044.jpg
