    Couple Police Items for Review/Comment

While entertaining myself with the eye candy police clamshell listed at Lakesidetrader.com, I also noticed two police items newly listed that I immediately noticed some concerns with. So I contacted Paul who was more than kind enough to entertain my comments and also allowed me permission to post links to photos to the items (temporarily removed from sale) here for open discussion.

First Up is a Schutzpolizei tunic which I believe is an original NCO grade tunic that appears to be an improperly restored. My observations...
    • Collar tabs, non regulation TR police tabs.
    • Sleeve eagle is an officer grade machine woven example. Also note the outline on the sleeve of a prior oval insignia to the upper left of this one. Proper would be a green embroidered example with name, depending on date.
    • Rank straps have black cords associated for SD, although the light green backing and new look make me wonder if they are the reproduced SD straps.

Second is a Gendarmerie Visor that also appears to be restored. Does anyone recognize the name, seems like I've seen this posted before?? Anyhow, my concerns...
    • Note the grey band with bead typical of postwar visors. Also note that the shield indicates the Stirndruckfrei which is not present and this is not a typical Kupper brown band.
    • Also note the different shade of green by the band than the rest of the visor.
    • Torn up interior that appears re-stitched

Please add your thoughts on both. Thank you!

It appears to me that the top and sides of the visor are two different materials? Amazing job sewing in the post war sweat band.

Its funny. I noticed that cap and was trying to figure out why it just didn't look right. I agree with Joe that the sweatband is a replacement, and indeed, the top seems to be made of a different material than the body of the cap. The body has a fuzzy nap and the top a flat woven appearance. I think that it was made this way, but it certainly looks a bit odd.

The visor is a real Pekuro with a replaced postwar BRD sweatband.
Top panel wool appears to be a different weave/quality than the side panels--rare to see, but it did exist.

Eagle is real, but probably a replacement--I would expect a zinc piece to match the cockade.

Looks like we agree on the visor cap, here are a couple pics of the tunic in question.

Well... the insignia is incorrect and has probably been replaced. Miester boards with black inlays indicates Sipo and not Orpo. Collar tabs are lower rank Orpo. Sleeve eagle is higher rank Orpo Officer style.

Collar tabs look like they are very light green or yellow. Possibility of fadded or other? I suspect it's all been reworked.
