    Gau warthe badge 1939

I was quite fortunate to pick up this badge and a few other things at a local show.

I am trying to find some relatively current sales on this badge to value it.

My 1993 Forman's shows it at $ 4,000 but who knows ?? I am restricted from seeing the Nazi medals, and sales results on the Herman Historica Auction site.

Yes, I did block the badge number it is in the 4xx range.

Not bad for a Flare Gun Collector !

Flare--this has always been my favorite of the Gau badges, and also one of the most rare. I couldn't tell you the value, you should post it on the Political forum. Sweet piece!

I've always been interested in these as the rivets on the reverse seem so unlike anything that Germany produced during the period. This specimen seems unusual in that the devices on the front between the date and eagle seem to be off center to the right as does the date. I've often wondered why the abbreviation on so many of the seen examples for number is done as No. since the common German abbreviation for number is Nr. and No. is more often used as the English abbreviation. I think it would be great if we could have some members familiar with this badge add to this thread to further our knowledge.

Thanks, I received some info on the other forum as well. The photo was taken at an angle to catch the light and show the badge better.

This is the 2nd variation, the 1st variation does have the Nr. marking.

Because I am a Flare Gun Collector I did not recognize this badge. When offered to me in a small group of medals I actually handed it back to the seller to get him to reduce the price by $50, I never saw a German Badge like that either, so you know what I thought. He handed it back to me and raised my offer by $25. So I guess you can say I have $25 in this Badge !

I only know common medals and badges, and not well enough to tell Many of the better fakes - yet, but I am learning.

In the batch, I picked up a WWII First class Iron Cross Mint in Mint Box ( Took Box Apart after purchase, and it is 100% ). WWII 2nd class iron cross, SS Visor skull and eagle ( sold at same show and paid for most of my purchase ), Three medal bar ( wwI iron cross, hindenburg cross w swords, and 18 Year police service ), and a few $25, to $50 items.

This was my first real " Buy " in German Medals I ever had. Hope there is more to come.

I think you did very well for $25! Assuming the badge is good and looking at it I think it is then value is $4000 or thereabouts. Very rare badge.

They were issued for Gau Warthe to select political leaders in the Wartheland. The Badge was not instituted until 1940. Here is Gauleiter Greiser wearing his:

The second badge is totally different from the first badge.
