    Beautiful buckles gentlemen.
I've never thought much about these other than being a necessary uniform accessory, but your display Dave is very attractive, and I can see why you enjoy collecting these things.

    Joe,

Believe it or not, I purchased one of the Officer grade, feldgrau buckles in 2001 from Mr. Shea, but I sent it back as I thought it was for the fire police.
It did not have the "keeper" though and it would have been near impossible to find one. Both of your examples are very nice and the Lapo
ones, quite exquisite. Thanks for explaining why these are so rare and expensive.

    Regards,

    Marcus

Actually, a period photograph of a LAPO buckle being worn is reproduced in one of the older buckle collector's books, although I don't have it to hand right now. Unfortunately, all it shows is Ley talking to a group of factory workers and one of these is clearly wearing the buckle with his work clothes. I'm totally with Joe when he says the LAPO buckles were not issued for the reason stated.

Great feldgrau police buckles, by the way!

      Best regards,
      Karl

That could be exciting news! Would you happen to remember the title and or author or any other relevant information of the book mentioned?

Hey Karl, good to hear from you again. Yes, I remember that thread and the photo. But I remember that the photo was of such poor quality and the angle such that one could only see the outline of some wreathed eagle. And as it was a civilian worker, the probability of it being the Assmann buckle was slim and next to none. As I remember, it was at least five years ago or so, probably on the GD forum?

          Take care over there.......

            Hello Joe,

Good to hear from you too, it's sure been a while. Trust you're keeping well and growing your collection!

I have now found the photo. It's on page 213 of Francis Catella's "Gott mit uns! Les boucles de ceinture Allemands 1870 - 1940", published Strasbourg 2001. You're right, all the photo really shows is the blurry outline of a buckle with an oval wreath and protruding wing tip-like devices on the sides. So, on that basis, all one can say is that it may be the LAPO, although nothing else readily comes to mind.

I thought I'd seen this photo more clearly reproduced in another publication as well, but can't find it. Anyway, even if it is the LAPO Assmann buckle, still no proof that it was ever issued to its intended recipients at all. I too was wondering how the old guy in the photo could have gotten hold of one.

If anyone is still in contact with Francis Catella, maybe he could provide a better reproduction of the photograph he used in the book.

            Best regards,
            Karl

RonR, those are some great looking LaPo buckles!!!

As some of you may know, I have difficulty letting go of certain topics so I'm going to bring this back up and beat on it some more. Especially since I've become obsessed with maker marked police buckles w/matching tabs!
