Here's my contribution that I thought you guys might enjoy.

In all my years of postcard collecting, I've only seen it offered twice.

Thanks for posting gents, great photography Dave!
John, that postcard is great, I've never seen one of these before, do you know if it was a standard card just showing one grade of the Mothers Cross or did they produce the series of bronze, silver, gold?

          Hi Adrian,

I don’t believe that there ever was an official postcard (by Heinrich Hoffmann) to congratulate the new recipient of this award. This color card is from a period private postcard Verlag. Color cards from the era were more expensive to produce, and thus cost more in the local postcard shops. In my humble opinion that’s why there are not too many of this issue out there. It was probably a limited release, local printing without wide distribution. At first, I looked at it as representing the Gold version, but it could very well represent the Bronze. It will be hard to ever know for sure?

It is a beautiful card, and rather rare. It set me back about $700 after one tacks on the 20% auction commission and a Euro costing about $1.55 at the time. Not cheap, but I’m addicted to nice color cards!

          Best regards,
          John

Thanks for the reply and for the additional info John, and also for posting this very interesting and rare card. It might have been pricey but it certainly is a fantastic example and something that many would like to own.

              Question Concerning Document

Hello Everyone. I'm fairly new to collecting, and I had a question concerning the document(s) that accompanied the Mother Cross. While I've seen plenty of Mother Crosses in person and on the internet, I've yet to see an actual certificate. Why are these so much harder to locate than the actual medals, and can anyone point me in the right direction for purchasing one (certificate)? Thanks much!

Here are my two, not sure on the reasons why you see more awards than certificates, could be many reasons, easily lost, damages etc. This applied across the board, EKs for example, you see more awards than certificates etc.

                Gold - or first class.....

Bronze - or third class. Note the two different styles.....

Here is a press photo in my collection showing the mothers cross.

                      The caption reads:

9744/ Awarded for childbearing mothers on 1 October.
In these hard days, we have by no means forgotten the rewarding of our childbearing mothers. On 1 October, the Cross of the German Mother was bestowed on these mothers by the Führer.
