It is the W for low rank officers out of the so called Mediatstädte and Schutzmannschaften (except Berlin!) throughout Prussia.

Wilhelm von Müffling genannt Weiß (1839–1912)

He was Police president of Frankfurt a.M. 1889-1904

Hard to find in any condition and size. This one is 38 x 46,5 cm (framed it could be for an office).

Gerd, now that is seriously decorated individual and uniform! There is now way he is sneaking about at night with all that clang! Wow, I bet the details have to be stunning on the large size...perfect for framing and for collecting wall! Congrats!

The handguard of the saber is of pre 1887 issue.
After 1886, Berlin officers had to remove the big basket style handguards because of some serious accidents on the modern Berlin streets (slippery cobblestone pavement).
