            Nice picture!

            Here is my new addition.

            Königlicher Polizei-Inspektor

That´s Konrad Klaeber, born in 1854, Police-chief of Altona (later part of Hamburg).

He came 1891 from Berlin and was at least up to 1904 in Altona.

Klaeber was the first (known) who used fire-monitors to stop a huge crush of people (100.000+ who enjoyed a Kaiser field day -great Zapfenstreich-)

Now known as "Zapfenstreich in Altona" 1904 (some postcards were printed in remberance of that day )

            In 1900 Altona had

            145.000 citizen
            1 Police-Inspektor
            5 Police-Kommissare
            7 OberpolizeiSergeanten
            87 Sergeanten
            9 Harbor-Policemen
            31 Night-guards
            66 Policemen
            2 jail-Policemen
            24 criminal-detektives

Impressive. The first guy to use fire hoses, nice. I see there were more sergeants than policemen on his force, obviously not supervisors as they are in US.

                    Bill,

Oberpolizei-Sergeanten were supervisors / NCO´s (like Wachtmeister /Bezirkswachtmeister) in case of Altona.

Sergeant/Policeman/Schutzmann was a matter of time in service.

one more of the Zapfenstreich show

Cologne is one of the centers of mardi gras here in Germany.

This very rare photo shows a Schutzmann who seems to be a "Jeck" and at least a mardi gras prince

                      Look at his impressive necklace

Sorry, I was wrong in case of this officer!

                        No mardi gras

This officer has a so called Koenigskette (king-necklace) as winner of the Koenigs shooting around his neck. The bird is the so called kings-bird.

There are quite a number of several hundred year old Christian shooting brotherhoods (St. Sebastianus pp.) around the Cologne area which wore such style of necklace.

                        Example necklaces
