Actually the Panther has continued to be the mascot of the Bereitschaftspolizei. The old Bepo sport shirt patch bore the same logo, and the current verbandsabzeichen (pocket badges) also feature the sitting black panther.
As far as the use of Land versus Landes: Landes was used from 1919-1935. Following WWII, when more emphasis was put on the decentralized police forces, the term Land was used for the "state" police patrol while Gemeinde and Stadt Polizei titles which were for municpal. In 1972, after all the municipal police were merged into the state police, the term Landes was reinstituted until 1976
I also believe the panther is featured as a statue at the Bepo training barracks.
As far as the names underneath: Hollering / Waltner ? Surnames for award winners?
