    Presentation badges anyone?

Thought I'd test the waters here with a US Police presentation badge to see if there any others out there waiting to be published. Here is one in white gold with a yellow gold insert around a diamond presented to a Milwaukee dectective presumably when he retired by his friends in the department. This would have been a private purchase badge since the department would not have spent that kind of money. Enjoy

    Fred,

A nice custom die badge. I have not seen one quite like it before. I particularly like what I presume to be the all seeing eye centerpiece. An old police icon to be sure. I can only wish my retirement badge was this nice.

Can we see a photo of the clasp in the back? What time period do you believe this badge to be?

George the badge is smaller copy of the regular detective shield of that time. This one is dated 1927. I'll attach a scan of the reverse and one of the regular issue for comparison. What is really wild to my way of thinking is that the Milwaukee detective badges were not numbered back then. Never thought of the all seeing eye sybolism until you mentioned it.

          Fred,

Thanks for the back view. The 1927 date narrows down the time frame quite nicely. Is that a safety clasp on the pin? It looks very custom along with the rest of the badge. A super presentation piece.

That is a good way to describe it. Once the pin is under the catch there is a little lever which locks it in place. I think this badge and others like it that I have seen are all locally manufactured since the only ones I have ever seen like these are Milwaukee pieces.
