I'd obtained the older photo (top image) some time ago and I recently purchased a copy of the same image on a ? cigarette card. It wasn't until I received the second image and had a good look at it, that I noticed one of the people was missing from the original photo (? R. Hess). Unsure why the he'd been removed from the cigarette card, but if someone could explain why they would do this, and if it was common to photoshop back then, it would be appreciated. I picked up both the photos for next to nothing and was wondering if they're worth anything?

In short...
Early May of '41 Hess flew and parachuted into Britain on a rough mission to sue for peace. This was obviously against the wishes of Hitler and done on his own accord. Needless to say, the ole Fuhrer was pissed and labeled Hess a traitor. It's not surprising to see him edited out of pictures standing anywhere near Hitler, and actually pretty cool that you have such an example of each!

Kengir and Vince capture the situation for you, Mick. This sort of blatant recreation of history to suit the purpose was common in NSDAP circles. While someone went to great lengths to erase Hess' image from this photo, that person also created a background out of 'whole cloth!'
Also of interest is that Hess was not wearing his Blood Order at this annual Putsch event. Hitler wore his BO at such events during the early days of his chancellorship, but after a couple of years he apparently decided that he should always look the same and never wore badges or pins from the events he attended. Hess, as his deputy, also took on that ideal.
A great pair of historical pix! Thanks for sharing,
Br. James
