Anyone care to comment on the type of the motorcycle, "number only" license plate, etc.?

              As Always Akira Awesome images!

I am not an expert on bikes, or anything else for that matter, but the levers on the handle bars are going to help.
If I remeber correctly there was one or two european makers at least that used levers that hinged from the insode edge of grips. My feeling is this is an "import" or a recently "liberated" bike.

                Looks like a BMW R25 or R51/2

                    Todd,
Looks like an NSU 251 OS. On page 16 of 'German motorcycles World War 2' by Tony Oliver shows an NSU 601 which has a number of similarities. It says that there were two versions, I guess that your photo was the smaller CC as it only has the one exhaust onto a single cylinder and the 601 in the photo in the book has two exhausts onto a single cylinder.
                    Hope this helps.
                    Regards
                    Irv
