I must start by saying sorry for the bad pics, im in my widowless bunker without the right light setup, a friend of mine has asked to try and find some opinions on this cert he picked up in the 80's, he heard that numbers of these unissued certs were found in Berlin and brought back in bundles. Anyway we would be gratefull for any help.

Peter - many thanks for posting my award certificate [I need to renew my subscription fee!!] I trawled WAF & found a post/thread on the "Tinnies & Political Badges Forum" headed "Adler Orden" started by WAF member "Blue Division" with a few postings from member "Marisca Irommel" .. it shows a fine Adler Orden collection, with some relevant award certificates .... some of which are similar to the one you kindly posted, ie not filled in/awarded with their respective covers ... i wonder if these good WAF members would help us in our quest??

The documents of the DAO were titled "Der Deutscher Reichkanzler" before the introduction of "Klasse" before Dec. 1943 (previously "Stufe"). According to Niemann's book, the concept "Stufe" continued after that date and that he had never encountered a document with "Klasse".
This is the 2nd blank document with "Klasse" I've seen with "Der Führer der Grossdeutschen Reiches". I've also seen an image of a 1944 document with "Der Führer" only, however that was titled "Stufe". It's IMO still a few things to research regarding these documents.
cheers

Peter - firstly many thanks for your kind response, most helpful - I reverted to my old copy of "Littlejohn & Dodkins" maybe a little out of date? As noted, it states that on 1/5/37 .... Order of the German Eagle 1st Class, was entitled "Deutsches Adlerorden, Erste Stufe"
The Order was then revised on 27/12/43 & became : Order of the German Eagle 1st Class & entitled "Deutsche Adlerorden Erster Klasse" I have copied script directly from the book ... unfortunately, they only have illustrations of the medal .... not the award document
I then turned to my copy of "Formans Guide to Third Reich German Documents- Volume One" unfortunately, I should have bought Volume Two!, which covers Political & Civil Awards & has a section on the Order of the German Eagle 1937 & 1943 versions .. which, I presume, will have the relevant Award Documents illustrated?
That is as far as my research has progressed to date?

Close but no cigar The "Erste Stufe" 1937 was re-named "3.Klasse". All this confusion was due to the institution of new classes 1943. Angolia's book vol.2 is a good reference and gives an account for the changes, as well as illustrations of some documents. You can also search this forum for "DOA", that will provide you with a lot of info.
cheers

The spelling of texts, available to them, shape and color of the Eagle on the cover, forms the watermark of the document, they indicate that it is an original document not issued, however it much attention "DEN DEUTSCHEN ADLERORDEN ERSTER KLASSE" and "DER FÜHRER DES DER GROßDEUTSCHEN REICHES" texts.
I have never before seen a document from the Grand Cross of the order of the Eagle German with these statements or texts... is a document of last season (1943-1945) with changes in its design that never came to be issued?
The possession of one of these copies is certainly interesting for any collector of the order of the German Eagle but, whatever that not this proven 100% its authenticity, not came to be issued and there are no documents showing that there was a new design of these documents that correspond to the one shown, its value low very significantly...
Public examples of original documents with correct and different texts of 1939 and 1941. Also another example of document blank not issued that has no watermark or signatures public

Firstly, many thanks for your time & research in respect of the award certificate posted by my friend Dragnet. Its good to know that the document, based upon it's physical features, appears to be original? .... but the wording appears to throw up more questions than answers? .... as you stated, maybe a very late war version, that never saw the "official" light of day? ... until it became the spoils of war of some allied service person?? .... an item of intrigue maybe, to collectors of this award??
I wonder if any other Adlerorden collectors, such as your goodself, could enlighten?
I have another AO award certificate [also un-issued], different stufe/klasse... if my friend Dragnet has the time, perhaps he would be kind enough to post that one as well for discussion? ..... they were aquired from the same source, at the same time... a long time ago!! Regards & thanks again for youe help
