      Hans,

You sure know your stuff on vehicles. Thanks for enlightning me on the various types of vehicles. I get the impression that this Unit and Commander liked to collect some pretty nice cars and Command Vehicles. There is such a diverse amount of vehicles within the 5th FD (L). I also have other photos that show them outfitted with bicycles.
      Thanks - Bill

Would you not think that Pic #33 has Luftwaffe officer wearing the Croatian Iron trefoil?
        http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtop...er=asc&start=0

That would narrow down the officer's identity.

          Hi Bill,

Your albums are absolutely full of gems!

Pic #33 according to Shawn at the other site could be General der Flieger Albert Vierling, Kmdr, Feldluftgau Rostov-Don from 24 Oct 1941-June 1943. He won his DKiS later in June 43 and he was a first class winner with Swords of the Croatian Order of the Crown of King Zvonimir.

And the picture somewhat resembled what available at Gareth's site. Any other pcis of this guy?

          Cheers
          Freiherr

            Elwyn,

There are some others of this very same officer in some of the albums. I will check and post them on this thread. Cheers! - Bill

First of all, Bill, I am located in now what is called WestVa (West of Varick) or Woho (West Soho) in Manhattan. Hells Kitchen is now mostly chic kitchen, not much hell left!!

Hmmmm.... thanks to Vienna, the best spotter of generals ( and btw Denis, the best spotter of anything but generals ) and Oberstab Dieter, it seems like we are going all the way from the Baltic to the Crimea ( but how about my flak sign??).... which is why I think the GFM was von Kleist and not von Kluge. von Kluge had a car accident and was out of action until 1944 whilst von Kleist was Kmdr, Arny Gr A.... Crimea.

That brings in Gareth... the Luftwaffe expert
Schmidt/Thies/Wegmann/Zweng listed Hans Bruno Schultz-Heyn and Botho Graf von Huelsen as commanders of 5 LF Div.

Gareth showed a GenMj Hans Jochen von Arnim also in his website.

More info to go from here?

                Cheers

                Look at
                http://www.wehrmacht-awards.net/foru...d.php?t=122618

Hptm Kurt von Greiff was Kmdr of I/KG51 when Mj Hans Bruno Schulz-Heyn was Kmdr of KG51. Could the two pics of the major there be him?

                Cheers

Going through my Field Division albums and found a interesting photo so posting it on this old thread....maybe I will revive it a little bit with some more pics from the same albums (there are six of them).

Army General in this pic plus I believe that LW Officer might be the same officer who was wearing the Croatian award. There is also an Army NCO or Officer wearing a Panzer Badge EK1 and Wound Badge and FJ Jump trousers.

                    Hi Bill,

Unfortunately I can't ID this army general. Neither v Foerster nor Kmdr of 5 LF Div v Huelsen.

The LW officer you were referring to was wearing the Crown Order of King Zwonimir, because it was white, and not the Croatian Iron Trefoil that I referred to.

                    Lookign forward to more pics.

                    Cheers
