    Stauffenberg Envelope?

    Apparently this is a letter mailed to Stauffenberg's "brother" . The problem is, Stauffenberg doesn't have a brother named Friedrich, at least not that I can see. Also seems like no one in the family was named "Friedrich" since at least the 1800's. I asked the seller and he maintains it is Stauffenberg's brother.

    Is this a forgery or is it just someone else in the family named Stauffenberg?

    I found this Friedrich. It could be him.

    Friedrich (*19. Mai 1908 in Rißtissen; † 25. März 1982 in München)

      As you know, anything on ebay should be approached with extreme caution. I'd do as much searching as possible ! Tom

          I found this a very interesting question and I think Gerdan has found exactly the right man !

          In case you are really interested in this family matters, I'll add some links. I think the Wiki-link seems to be ok,
          but the one from Badisches Landesarchiv should be really trustworthy.

          The important section in the second link is that above § 2 (Die Archive der Schenken von Stauffenberg im ... ) :
          There it says, that the noble family Stauffenberg was split in two parts in the 19th century:
          One line (the descendendants of Franz Schenk von Stauffenberg (1801-1881) ) received the title of Graf (count) ),
          [this is the line Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg belonged to],
          while the other line was that of the brother of Franz, Friedrich Schenk von Stauffenberg (1806-1874).
          This line had the title "Freiherrn" (not "Graf") and the castle Wilflingen is today still owned by one of the "Freiherren" line :

          So, already judging by the title, the letter cannot be addressed to a brother of Claus, but is to a Friedrich from the other line.
          And perhaps the Wiki link can give some further hints on the exact relationship.

              Just to add, the letter was sent from a castle in Újezd Svatého Kříže. The structure was torn down by the Czechoslovakian government in 1978. It is very likely that the sender was a former owner of the castle - Heinrich Freiherr Kotz von Dobrz (died in 1956).

              Interesting side-story: The KC winner Willy Czorny was born in a house very near to this castle...

                      Anything associated with Claus Stauffenberg is next to impossible to obtain.

                      Even his wife, Nina, who lived till 2006, there is NOTHING with her autograph.


                      Might have to settle for a distant relative.

                        Friedrich Schenk von Stauffenberg is named on the German state archive Baden Wuerttemberg website. He died in Munich in 1982. He obviously was a brother of Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg and the offered envelope on Ebay is....authentic !
