I didn't say it was fake, just very hard to prove real, especially through an electronic image. In that case I would go for something surer if I wanted a Rommel....i.e. Something with more of his hand writing. There are a lot of his ANS and ALS documents on the market.

      Rommel

Dear Hank, please understand that I will not waste my time to upload several documents just to continue this boring discussion about an authentic Rommel signature. I already often had boring discussions here with self appointed experts such as Max or Jeremy as far as signatures are concerned. In this forum are some people who always scream FAKE, but they don´t even recognize a faked/stamped traced with ink Hitler signature. Anyway, my intention was to help the enquirer and to inform him that this Rommel signature is authentic. I call myself not an expert, but I deal with third Reich documents since more than ten years.... it is my job and my subsistence and you can believe me that I know if a document is authentic or a fake. I am just bored to read all these opinions by people who absolutely have NO idea as far as third Reich docs are concerned. There are people here in this forum who even knows each single stamper and they also know that each single paper sheet must be black light negative....and so on and so on. It is senseless to discuss with such people because - as I already mentioned - they are self appointed experts ! In this sense, best regards Rob

Much of being a collector is feeling confident about your knowledge and what you've spent your hard-earned money on. If someone wants an example from this "series" of Verleighungslisten, then that is perfectly fine. To each his own.

Well Rob, you've just joined their club - you profess to know what you're talking about, but don't really give us any concrete examples. It's all too "boring" for you, and you can't be "bothered" by providing proof, or helping to educate others (myself included, because I truly don't know if this is original or not).

If it's so awful here, with the "FAKE" screamers and "self appointed experts", why do you come here? It must be a horrible waste of your oh-so-precious time.

It appears to be authentic - I wouldn't say anything's authentic until I had it in my hands to examine. A huge pile of these came out about ten years ago (the "Rommel horde"), and I would almost wager that Patton's is good as well, although his illustration is lousy.

Wewel makes a point. It's a huge PITA scanning documents and then pointing out every difference between loops, crossover points, writing pressure, etc. Quite honestly, it's difficult to explain to laymen how to detect forgeries because it literally takes years and years to develop a good "eye". If it's not your profession or the main thrust of your collecting, it can be frustrating trying to explain why something is authentic or spurious.

On another thread here, someone debated a Hitler signature, hinting it could be made good through its "provenance". Nonsense. I've seen crude fakes with the very best provenance. Witness Gottlieb's "self-authenticating" Mengele passport. Every document must stand on its own two legs.

Hank, I come here - sometimes - because I try to help members of the forum with my best knowledge as far as third Reich documents are concerned. Am I forced to upload any documents just to prove that a Rommel signed document is authentic ? NO !

Perfect quote ! In my opinion, people judge too fast and scream fake. I just want to show two examples of my Rommel documents from the Vienna war academy. I personally got a complete folder by Rommels last Chauffeur who lived in Munich city and who was murdered in Czechoslovakia several xears ago. Anyway, this folder contains hundreds of so called daily orders from the late 30´s as Rommel was Commander of this war academy. See especially the second signature. I never have seen such a Rommel signature in the world wide internet, but it ´s Rommel´s signature. Certainly, many, many members of this forum or other collectors would also scream FAKE as far as this signature is concerned, because they have never seen such a Rommel signature..... and therefore it MUST be a fake - right ?

                    Compare

More pertinent than random Rommel sigs not relevant to the original item posted, take a look at this thread and compare to the documents and sigs shown... we've been here before (note Haas analysis)

Rob - thanks for posting these. I certainly don't expect you to post your whole collection -that would be overkill & tedious. But it helps guys like me if you just post a couple to help us out.

                        Thank you again.

                        regards,

Pretty much the same as the rest if us, I come here to learn and provide an opinion where I think it has some value. Yet you scathingly refer to us as naysaying experts when it sounds to me like we are much like you....or perhaps you have are a recognized expert? And providing a reasoned opinion that something looks off is not "screaming fake." You make some good points with your posted items and there is a lesson there. Perhaps we can all learn from each other.
