Very interesting. I assume one had to collect the photos and stick them in an album, right? So whoever collected the picture without Hess, put it in an older album printed before Hess flew to Scotland? Is this right?
By the way, if this collecting thing is correct, where were these photos sold during the Nazi period?

Here's a scan of the front of the Köberich's catalog. Indispensible if you collect cigarette albums. There are probably about 100 that would interest collectors of this forum. There are hundreds more that possibly would not (deal with nature, sport, geography, foreign lands, etc).

I thought I would bring this thread back to the top to mention a book I got recently off the Estand. It is an English translation of Deutschland Erwacht called...."Germany awakes". Slightly smaller format but it contains copies of all the cards...and it's all in English! I like my cigarette card albums very much but my understanding of the German language is not sufficient to read these fluently so an English version was most welcome. Amazing propaganda stuff! The foreword of this book mentions that the "author" was with the 7th Army in 1945 when he found one of these albums...years later he decided to get an English version published. Any idea if the other albums have been translated also?

good thread on cigarette albums!
At present I have nine in my collection, which are:
"Kampf Um's Dritte Reich"
"Die Reichswehr"
"Bilder Deutscher Geschichte"
"Olympia 1936" (Two volumes)
"Adolf Hitler"
"Raubstaat Engeland"
"Deutschland Erwacht" (With original postage cartonage)
"Die Wehrmacht"
Die Reichswehr was published in 1933, the year the Nazis came to power, but
contains cards of the pre Nazi era army; and Bilder Deutscher Geschichte is an overview of German history containing no Third Reich material.
It pays to shop around for these, a local British militaria dealer quoted me prices of £50 for Bilder Deutscher Geschichte, and £100 for Kampf Um's Dritte Reich.
I eventually purchased these for £17.80 and £42 respectively from a German Dealer!

Hello all,
Just returned from Germany. I have bought there a cigarette card album "Olympia 1932".
Does anyone know if this was a single album, or in two volumes like "Olympia 1936"?
I believe this was a single volume, and would like conformation about this.

There is only the one volume. Rather common, but certainly useful to have if you have an interest in the Olympics or are seeking a more complete cigarette album collection.

As common as it is, it's best to find an excellent condition example with its dustjacket and protective Schuber. Don't settle for junk in this particular title.

Ok... I read all the very interesting differences between early and late (Hess and no Hess) but I can't quite transform this information into potential value. Would one venture to comment on the potential differing value between an early or late edition of one of these albums? Go for it! LOL

Before reading this thread, I had just sold an Orange Hitler album to a friend. I called the guy who bought it from me and told him to check to see if Hess was obliterated or not... He brought it back over to my home and we found it was indeed one of the albums where Hess was removed from both the photos and the subscripts. Interestingly, for the records it is numbered 2201-2300 tausend. So, I guess if Ramon's book is numbered 2001 to 2100 and this one is numbered 2201-2300 then the expunged Hess obviously took effect in earlier editions than this thread first suggested...

Note the following pages where Hess has been removed (Pages 53,55,118,120,129) and moreover there are a few photos (pg.43,75,111) that originally had Hess in them that have now been substituted with a completely different photo and subtitle!
