    Hello Chris:

I do not believe it is a WHW piece unless it's one of the many hundreds of Tag der Wehrmacht pieces.

I looked through the Tieste tinnie catalogue and my collection and may have found it. It is a tinnie (Tagungsabzeichen) from Grimma. The only thing that makes me wonder is it's from 1935. Maybe he got it as a young guy and wore it for the occasion of this photo? Attached is a picture of it.

I suggest also posting a link to this thread in the tinnies section.

It's strange that the dates are so far apart.

      It's clearly the same badge.

Could any surplus have been re-used? It's sounds far fetched but it would be odd that it meant so much to him to dig it out and wear it mid war.

      Chris.

Yes it is strange. I know some of the same tinnie designs were used for other years/occasions/towns but it is the only one I was able to find that matches. That doesn't mean that it is an unknown one because there were thousands of them.

Maybe someone in the tinnie forum has other suggestions. I'll post a link to this thread there.
