    What was "ss begleitkommando" ?

Anyone know what unit this was? well, too bad you can't see if they had their own cuff title, but they got to hang out with some pretty fräuleins :-)

Yes nice Fräuleins! do yourself a google search, use "SS-Begleitkommando des Führers" as your tag and read on! You will answer all your questions..... Have fun doing your research!

      Thanks for the links.

Found this, looks like a scarcity of decorations was commonplace

Yes, Lack of combat = lack of decorations. a pretty cush job when compared to the men freezing in Russia!

        Have fun searching and learning!

Well, the fellow in my photo did do a bit of freezing in Russia, you can just make out that he wears the ribbon of the Ostmedaille

Good eye on spotting the frozen meat ribbon. If he was still in Berlin at the end then he got some serious combat.

              Hi,
Don't really think it was a cushy job they stayed in Berlin to the end,I would not like to take them on.

And then there was Himmler's Begleitkommando.

Anyone know how many men served with this unit?

Of course the only "proof" that this man was with the SS-Begleitkommando and not another SS unit is the writing on the back of the photo, and anyone could have written that... but it could be fun to know if someone named "Alfons" actually served with the SS-Begleitkommando in 1944.
