This is one of my favourites.

I'm not entirely sure what it is trying to say but, ideology aside, I am sure most young British kids would have preferred a nice smart HJ getup to the trusty old snake belt and a cricket bat any day.

        Cheers,
        David.

At Rathau on the Aller, the CO of 5th Royal Tanks advanced on foot to take a cautious look into the town before his tanks moved in. He encountered one of his own officers, a huge Welshman named John Gwilliam who later captained his country's rugby team, 'carrying a small German soldier by the scruff of his neck, not unlike a cat with a mouse.' The Colonel said: 'Why not shoot him?' Gwilliam replied in his mighty Welsh voice: 'Oh no, sir. Much too small.'

I have no idea of the origin but when I was a kid in the 70's multi-coloured elasticated snake belts were still all the rage.

The arse could be hanging out of your trousers but as long as you had a snake belt on you were cool.

Not that I spend my time staring at young boys trouser regions mind but you just don't see them about these days.

Looks like another longstanding British tradition gone the way of the Dodo

                              Cheers,
                              David.
