Hi, I try to translate, but my English is not the best and partly ridculous

      Dear Mrs. Helmer !
regarding the heros death of your husband, myself and the 19. SS-Standarte convey my deepest sympathy. Your husband gave the highest for the maintenance of our nation. The cost of his life should be our duty to do everything that his scarifice wasn´t in vain. The Standarte will take this for its most distinguished duty to support you and to advise you with all your sorrows and difficulties.

I decipher this signature as "Krebs"

At first I thought of Hans Krebs, but Karl Krebs might be an even better possibility. Not sure about that though.

            I think there are two Krebs one was SS brigaderfuhrer and the second Wehrmacht General;

Hans Krebs (SS general) (1888–1947), Austro-Czech legislator
Hans Krebs (Wehrmacht general) (1898–1945), German infantry commander during World War II

But I can't find nothing on Karl Krebs ?

I found a reference to him in an on-line book, but he could have been fictional.

By the way, the SS General Hans Krebs was executed for war crimes in 1947.

                "SS General Hans Krebs"
you think that could be him who signed the letter?
                who else could it be?

It is not Hans Krebs, because Hans Krebs had an totally different signature.

Could the first four letters be Ihre--- ?

Somebody needs to look up the list of commanders of the 19. Standarte.

Addo, does this document have a date on it?

I did see this signature it is from 1939 this letter I posted is from 1943 don't if he could changed his signature in 4 years?

Signature is interested because first letter looks like "J" but then he creates "S" next to it for the Sieg Rune, so I don't know if the name starts with Js...
But don't know how many last names start with Js in general anyway!?
                      Or he really builds "K" out of J & S ???

Don´t believe that he changed his signature that way. The Krebs signature on th postcard even has an totally different style and handwriting. I am German, but there is no one German last name who starts with "JS". That makes no sense. I am pretty sure that the first letter is an "K"

So was Krebs ever in command of the 19th SS Standarte? That should be a matter of record. We have an indicator that the document is from 1943, so that should narrow it down even more.

Nice document. However I too believe it says Krebs. But this Krebs was not the leader of the 19. SS-Standarte at that time.He signed it with i.v. which means'' in vertretung''.He was assigned to write and sign this letter on behalf of the leader of the Standarte.
I checked the book from Mark Yerger on the Allgemeine SS and in the time period 43 there were two leaders. Both Standartenführer.

                              -Heinrich Neurath
                              -Wilhelm Asmus.

Maybe somebody could check the dienstalten/rang liste or the SS officers files for the Obersturmbannführer Krebs

                              regards,

                              Etienne
