That's not right. Divisional panzerjäger abteilungen were panzertruppen

Correct award for a member of an infantry division's panzerjäger abteilung.

The Stug III was a vehicle type used in various branches, sometimes as an 'ersatz'-panzer in panzer regiments and battalions. In those cases the PAB in silver will have been awarded.

Thanks for the clarification Simon. I had forgotten about that.

So let's break this down. Please correct were needed.

StuGs units as part of a particular divisions TOE were awarded...

        Infantry Divisons; GAB.

Pz Grenadier Divisions; Pz Abt. PAB, Pz Jäg Abt. GAB.

Pz Divisions; Pz Rgts. PAB, Pz Jäg Abt. GAB.

Independent StuG Brigades and StuG Abts...; GAB.

Hi windhund, I have been collecting for decades now and am still making mistakes. See Simon's post #17 clarification.

Interestingly I have seen photos of Infantry soldiers transfered to StuG's later in the war wearing there IAB's.

The Panzerjäger-Abteilungen were Panzertruppe (whereas the Panzerjäger-Kompanien of the Infanterie-Regimenter belong to the Infanterie).

The REAL Sturmgeschütz-Units belong to the Artillerie, that's right, but these Panzerjäger-Sturmgeschütz-Abteilungen are Panzertruppe!

Oberbootsmann, your EKII document with the Dr Hohn signature is very nice! I also have a small group of Pz Jäg Abt. 72 in which the soldier wears both the black and field grey uniforms.
