That one reads, "Soldatenheim something bei Tossno." Tossno, usually spelled Tosno or Tossna, is a town south of Mga, in the greater Leningrad (aka Petersburg) area. It is also a river, that runs northward, though the city, to meet the Neva River just outside of Leningrad. Their was a lot of fighting along the lower Tossna between the summer of 1942 and the following summer, so this might be a blockhouse near the river. But a Soldatenheim was usually a rest center for frontline soldiers, and since the city of Tossna was outside the area of the fighting, it would make sense to build a rest center there.

                  Hi Jason,

Thanks very much for the translations.
They have helped me get a clearer picture of where 154 Inf. Regiment was at a certain date.

The middle of the album contains a section of photos labelled "Ostpreussen Mai 1942" and shows soldiers of Inf. Rgt. 154 relaxing in a field with their horses. There is no mention in Lexicon der Wehrmacht of
elements of this Regiment being there at this time.

However, Lexicon der Wehrmacht states that elements of 58 Inf. Division were in Ostpreussen in May, 1941. This is rather confusing.

Here's a selection of photos from this section.

                          Hello Larry,

very nice to see this thread and your photographs. I own a large grouping of a member of 154 infanterie/Grenadier Regiment and I recognized the name of Hartig immediately. His BWB is signed by him. And if he was the commanding Hauptmann in late November 1942, there is a great possiblity that he served as his direct assistant for a short while. Currently I am doing a research on his grouping that that I might present in a few weeks/months.

You might also be interested in this thread with his Sturmabzeichen postcard:

                            Hi Paul,

Very nice BWB document showing the signature of Hptm. Ernst Hartig, the same Hartig whose photo album I own. Do you have any photos of Dethlefs?
There may be a photo of him in the album.

I thought I would post a few more photos from the album. Some may have been posted in other threads.

                            Cheers,
                            Larry
