Super photos. My grandfather was an Infantryman with the U.S. 45th ID and was in this same area. The Shermans you've shown in the photos are early variants, at least one has direct vision slots and all have a small gun mantle protector, all area signs of early Shermans. My grandfather said that he saw lots of burnt out Shermans, many flipped over, or on their sides after being picked off by German "88's". The narrow Italian roads were very bad for tanks and the Allies paid dearly for it.
