yup...saw that. Was not sure it was a fly or piece of wedding Kükhen

but...it was war. During my tour in Korea we called the American girls "queen for a year" (although I was there for two years), because once you got them back to the States they no longer seemed as pretty.

Not an original picture-but does anyone recognise this dashing young man?

Edit:I think his bride is a real contender for Miss(or Mrs )Germany

                Scott,

You are right. Eric "Bubi" Hartmann didn't marry the love of his life Usch until after his return from Russian imprisonment in 1955. They tied the knot in November 1955 in Weil Germany Bill

Sorry WPetz-Scott's comment was addressed to a different picture I originally posted which was of Hartmann(and Krupinski)in colour, with a good array of medals on show.

I changed it as it wasn't in keeping with the thread as Scott quite rightly pointed out.

Don't mean to be argumentative or anything, but Hartmann married his sweetheart during the war-he jokingly referred to her as his 302nd victory.
This was just after receiving the Diamond(Christmas 1944).

What you are referring to is the later Church ceremony that took place after his repatriation to Germany in the fifties.

I have a signed photo of Eric Hartman, and my wife looked at all the guys in these wedding pics and thinks he is the most handsome.

I was curious as to which one of the Baldwins is that in pic #34? Alec, Billy, Steve,.... Otto?

Thanks again for sharing these great photos, we are having a great time looking at this thread.

                          Neil,

No offence taken. I understand and they did have a civil ceremony in 1944...The actual Church wedding took place over 10 1/2 years later!! It just appears that the Hartmans felt a church wedding was much more important to them .especially after being forced apart during those harsh years of his imprisonment plus I believe the church doesn't recognize civil ceremonies as being Married in the eyes of the Church. Personally it makes no difference to me.

Is this thread a medal bar thread or Wedding photo thread?? just wondering since there seems to be alot of discussion about Medals and ribbon bars which is not keeping in tune with the thread.

                            Oh?

Some of you may prefer beauty contests or comparing veils.

Some of us prefer to discuss the uniforms and accoutrements shown.

                            To each their own.

Since medal bars were virtually never worn during the war EXCEPT for occasions such as weddings, full dress awards, dress uniforms, and swords are usually not to be seen in photographs EXCEPT with brides-attached.

                              Rick,

This has nothing to do with preference!! The thread was started as post your favorite wedding pics and not post your favorite medal bars!!! so it's not to each
their own!! I was posting wedding pics and not because they have medals or bars on their uniforms!! discussing such is taking away the theme of the thread and would be best suited in a medals badges or uniform thread. I have posted Fallschirmjaeger pics in the fallschirmjaeger thread/forum and the same with Panzer pics...so I'm not trying to start an agrument just pointing out that there is a place for it else where. Bill

Here is a nice one I scanned for a friend's collection. From the late spring or early summer of 1944, it is possible to date this undated photo because this is Christoph Stengel, a Knight of the Saxon Saint Henry Order who was only promoted to Generalmajor on 1 December 1943.

How often do we see a GENERAL'S wedding portrait?

He was then 50. No idea about the new Frau General, but she was clearly a mature lady and not a typist from the secretarial pool. They are both clearly as happy as any of the "kids" seen so far.

Notice that Stengel has modified his service dress into the usual form of wartime "full dress"-- adding parade belt, sword, and his pre-war medal bar, while wearing his EK2 Spange still from his buttonhole. The usual Groom's Floral Sprig surmounts all these awards.

His HIGHLY peculiar method of wearing his EK1 Spange and 1914 EK1 is characteristic of his personal "fashion sense" and repeated in other photos. And despite the "fancy dress," he has left OFF his 1918 silver wound badge!
