@Luc: I am stunned. I am not an expert in comparing signatures. It has some slight differences, but on the other hand. My own signature is always a little different as well.

I'm no big fan of showing signatures up close. There are
more genuine Peiper-signatures in collections of forum members,
Noone wishes to post a scan for known reasons.

The signatures always differ in some parts, but it's the final composition
and minor details which make them real or fake for me.

Post-war Peiper signatures are again quite different from wartime
as well.


Personally for me if not on an award recommendation or document
it boils down to where I have the signature from.

This was on a Russian site, and is a re-touched photo of Peiper after his arrest by the US Army (in the original, all his insignia and medals have been stripped).

Allegedly signed by Peiper, but I am not so much interested in the signature as to why the photo would have been retouched in the first place, as it depicts him A) in captivity and b) w/o his oaks and swords, as well as being only a Sturmbannfuhrer.

Anyone know the background of this pic?
